What drives the cost of a smart home.

The factors that shape every proposal, and why we start with a walkthrough or plan review instead of a number.

Every home is different, which is why we never price a project sight unseen. But the factors that drive cost are the same in every project, and understanding them makes the conversation much easier.

The biggest factors

1. Lighting control

Usually the largest part of a system in a luxury home. Cost follows the number of lighting circuits and keypads, and whether you choose standard fixtures or Ketra tunable lighting.

2. Motorized shades and drapery

Follows the number and size of windows. Homes and high-rises with a lot of glass, especially tall windows, invest more here.

3. Audio and video

How many rooms have music, whether speakers are invisible or standard, how many TVs, and whether there's a media room or dedicated theater.

4. The control platform

Savant, Crestron or Control4, and the number of rooms and interfaces. See our platform comparison.

5. Networking and security

Coverage area including outdoor spaces, cameras, locks and gates.

6. Timing

New construction or renovation, and how early we're involved. Planning during design is the single best way to control cost. More on timing.

Why we start with a walkthrough or plan review

A number given over the phone is a guess, and guesses lead to surprises. We walk the home or, if it isn't built yet, review the plans, learn how you live, and give you a detailed proposal showing exactly what goes where, so you can decide what matters most.

Common questions

How much does a smart home system cost in Houston?

It depends on the size of the home, the rooms included, the platform, and how much lighting, shading and audio is involved. We never price a project sight unseen. Every proposal starts with a walkthrough of your home or a review of your plans, followed by a detailed proposal.

Can I start small and expand later?

Yes, if the infrastructure is planned for it. Running wiring and sizing the equipment space for future rooms during construction makes later expansion straightforward.

Let's talk about your home.

Whether you're building, renovating or need help with a system you already have, tell us about it and we'll set up a walkthrough or a plan review.
