Ketra fixtures change the color of light as well as its brightness. Here's what that means in a real home, and where it makes the biggest difference.
Most lighting does one thing: it gets brighter or dimmer. Ketra, made by Lutron, also changes the color of the light. It can be crisp and bright in the morning, then shift warmer and softer through the evening, the way daylight does outside. For homes where materials, art and atmosphere matter, it's one of the most noticeable upgrades we install.
Ketra offers what Lutron describes as the widest available range of high-quality white light, from cool daylight tones to warm candlelight tones, plus millions of colors when you want them. The color can shift gradually over the day instead of jumping between a few preset values.
Ketra dims all the way down to 0.1%, and as it dims it warms toward amber, the way an incandescent bulb does. That's why a room on a Ketra "Evening" scene feels like a room lit by lamplight rather than a dimmed office.
A setting Lutron calls Vibrancy adjusts the balance of the light within the same color temperature. It's used to make artwork, stone and fabrics look the way they were meant to. In a home with a serious art collection, it's often the deciding factor.
Ketra integrates natively with Lutron HomeWorks, so Ketra fixtures sit on the same keypads and scenes as the rest of your lighting and your motorized shades. A "Goodnight" button can lower the shades and bring every Ketra light down to a warm glow at once. It also works with the Lutron app and connects to Savant control, so it's part of your whole-home system rather than a separate one.
See it in a real project: Library House in Memorial uses Ketra throughout, with custom-engraved Lutron keypads.
Ketra is a fixture choice, so it's best decided early, while your lighting plan is being drawn. Our team can design the lighting plan in house and supply the Ketra fixtures, or, if a lighting designer is already on the project, we work from their plan and handle control, keypad placement and programming. Either way, we program the scenes around how you actually live. Ketra fixtures are rated for indoor use, so we plan exterior lighting separately.
